Australian Open
2024
New Branding, Insert Package design, & Augmented Graphics.
One of the first projects in which I played a key role as the Art Director at Girraphic was the rebranding of the Australian Open broadcast graphics in 2018, when Tennis Australia sought a complete rebrand of their official graphics package. After six years of consistent on-air presentation, I took the lead once again to design the brand new graphics for the 2024 Australian Open event. This time, I worked closely with the tournament designers and the entire production team, filling the screen with a fresh and vibrant look, bringing fresh air to the tennis transmission.
For this approach, I aimed for a more minimalistic style while maintaining a balance between playful colors and simple shapes. By incorporating angles inspired by the “A” from the logo and using the “/” to signify the versus, the graphics feel distinct and fully aligned with the brand identity. I reintroduced patterns on the backplates to add subtle motion and depth, to enhance the visuals.
Fun and summer was the concept of the 2024 rebrand.
The opener titles and pre-rendered concept development was the result of the creative & collaborative process between the art directors in Sydney and Denver office at Girraphic. We wanted to bring the fun of the summer with a vibrant and playful look that will drive the screen content along the tournament. We aim to keep the iconic AO blue and the hint of yellow-lime as our main connector colour for this graphics package. I helped with the art direction to take this sequence live in 2024.
